Each other and one another are reciprocal pronouns.

The two brothers loved each other.
Here, the first brother loves the second; the second brother loves the first.
The members of the club fought with one another.
Here, each member is fighting with every other member.
Hi GMATGuru,

- In you examples above, can't we say the following:

The members of the club fought with each other. Is it the same meaning of 'one another'? i.e Can I use them interchangeably ?

2- Can you we use the 'every other' in example 2 to be as follows:

The members of the club fought with every other member.

3- In OA, can we use 'every other' in comparison?
each seeking to meet consumer needs and wants more successfully than every other firm

Thanks

Some grammarians -- including me -- reserve each other for two elements and one another for more than two.
Other grammarians consider the two modifiers interchangeable.
2- Can you we use the 'every other' in example 2 to be as follows:

The members of the club fought with every other member.
A club has exactly three members: Ann, Beth, and Carol.
The sentence above implies the following:
Ann, Beth and Carol are fighting with every other member.
Since Ann, Beth and Carol are the only members -- implying that there are NO OTHER MEMBERS -- the phrase in red lacks a logical referent.
Implication:
The sentence above is not valid.
3- can we use 'every other' in comparison?
The following sentence seems ok:

I don't understand why we can use each... the other here. This structure is used for a pair rather than for a crow of over 3 entities.

Can anyone help?

For example, the answer of the following question is B.

The company is fortunate to have excellent relationships among its employees: they each have a relationship of respect for all the others.

A
they each have a relationship of respect for all the others

B
they have respect for one another

C
each one has respect for one another

D
they each have a relationship of respect for each other

E
they and the others respect each other
