A mixture of poems and short fiction, Jean Toomer's Cane has been called one of the three best novels ever written by Black Americans-the others being Richard Wright, author of Native Son, and Ralph Ellison, author of Invisible Man.

A.Black Americans-the others being Richard Wright, author of Native Son, and Ralph Ellison, author of Invisible Man
B.Black Americans-including Native Son by Richard Wright and Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison
C.a Black American-including Richard Wright, author of Native Son, and Ralph Ellison, author of Invisible Man
D.a Black American-the others being Richard Wright, author of Native Son, and Ralph Ellison, author of Invisible Man
E.a Black American-the others being Richard Wright's Native Son and Ralph Ellison's Invisible Man

I would like to ask between B and E.
some says B is right and some says E.
thank u!

IMO E

Why B shouldn't be the right answer?
There is a 3:2 split between 'including' and 'the others'. Which one to choose?

1) The main problem word is INCLUDING. According to B's ridiculous construction, and according to grammar, it seems that 'Jean Toomer's Cane' includes 'Native Son by Richard Wright and Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison'. This is clearly NOT the case.
Sentence mentions 'Native Son by Richard Wright and Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison' to show two more examples of a mixture of poems and short fiction written by Black Americans. Do you agree? Therefore, we should be eliminating any choice that uses INCLUDING.

2) Lack of parallelism. 'Jean Toomer's Cane' is NOT parallel with 'Native Son by Richard Wright and Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison' The correct form is: 'Jean Toomer's Cane' and ' Richard Wright's Native Son and Ralph Ellison's Invisible Man'. Therefore, any choice that does NOT use an apostrophe (') construction should be eliminated.

This leaves you with choice E.

Thanks.

Option A and B starts with "Black Americans". Since Cane is written by a single author (Jean Toomer), the comparison should be with a single Black American. So, "a Black American" makes sense. This straight away eliminates the options A and B.

Of all the remaining options E seems to be the right.

Hope this helps!
