Minority Graduates

by gmataspirant » Thu Jun 26, 2008 3:12 pm
According to a survey of graduating medical students conducted by the Association of American Medical Colleges, minority graduates are nearly four times more likely than are other graduates in planning to practice in socioeconomically deprived areas.

(A) minority graduates are nearly four times more likely than are other graduates in planning to practice

(B) minority graduates are nearly four times more likely than other graduates who plan on practicing

(C) minority graduates are nearly four times as likely as other graduates to plan on practicing

(D) it is nearly four times more likely that minority graduates rather than other graduates will plan to practice

(E) it is nearly four times as likely for minority graduates than other graduates to plan to practice

No Niraj. "it" cannot be used to refer an entire clause. Let us wait for some more participants.

My answer choice would be 'C'

the key is the idiom "as likely as" - it is successfully comparing 'minority graduates' with 'other graduates'.

Choice A - Minority graduates........'than are other'....... (lost me there). Comparison isn't clear.

Choice B - "more likely" is an incorrect idiom.

Choice D - 4 times more likely? again incorrect idiom

Choice E - To compare the answer choice uses 'as likely' and 'than' which is again not the correct idiom.

Hopefully, I am correct.. I am just a beginner myself. Please correct me if I am wrong.
