The reason that certain spicy foods, such as the Habanero pepper, makes some people sweat is because they contain a chemical that stimulates the same nerve endings in the mouth as does a rise in temperature; this stimulation sometimes results in the activation of certain biological cooling mechanisms, one of which is perspiration.

I think the Answer is D
A and B has an subject verb issue. makes v. make. The subject is plural therefore make is preferred. Eliminate A and B.
Both C and E have an ambiguous pronoun issue. Specifically who is "they" referring to? The people or the food? Therefore eliminate.
Pick D!

The answer is D.
The main statement has a S-V agreement problem. The plural subject, spicy foods needs a plural verb (make) - this eliminates A & B.
Choice C makes use of the pronoun 'they' for Habaero pepper. This is incorrect because 'they' can refer only to people and not objects. Choice E can also be eliminated for the same reason.

Here they may refer to foods or people, so it is ambiguous pronoun.GMATMadeEasy wrote:Could an expert put a comment about usage of these foods and they . Are both usage correct ?

foods ....makes = wrong, A & B out.
... spicy foods ... make some people sweat ... because they => they may refer to foods or people = C & E out.
Also, reason is .... because ... => redundant
