each machine works at the same constant rate doing a certain job. the amount of time needed by the 10 machines, working toghether , to complete the job is 16 hours. how many hours would be needed if only 8 machines were used to complete the job

if 10 have the same pace, and 10 of them do it in 16 hr, then each alone will do it in 160hr

now the question is how much time will it take to 8 machines with rate of 160 hr to do the job

Total units of Work = 10 * 16 =160 units.
So,if 8 machines are used,time taken = Work/Number of machines =160/8 =20.

IMO B

Agree with ankush's explanation. Easiest method is to find the total units of work and solve from it always.
Getting defeated is just a temporary notion, giving it up is what makes it permanent.
