IESE/ESADE/IE Admission

by Kyfiesta » Mon Sep 07, 2015 4:20 am
Hi Guys,

I am looking for some feedback regarding admissions into the three leading Spanish B-schools. I recently sat the GMAT and scored a 620 (41Q/35V) and an 8 on IR. This was after scoring 690 on GMAC practice exam 3 days prior. Naturally, I was disappointed with the test day result.

From those who have gone through the admission process I would be keen to hear whether you think there is any possibility of successful admission into any of the programs at IESE, ESADE or IE based on the 620? I am confident that my extra-curricular activities and professional experience will be received favourably, however the shadow of the GMAT score continues to loom over me.

Any tips and/or insights on strategies to give myself the best chance to successfully apply would be appreciated. Should I re-sit the GMAT? Can I re-sit it after submitting my application by the round 1 deadline in October? Should I back myself with the 620 and rely on other aspects of the application process?

I recognise that opinions will differ. Regardless, your thoughts will be valuable.

Thanks

Hi, Kyfiesta

I have not been thru the admission process of these MBA's yet but I'm looking to apply to IE (Round 2), IESE (Round 2) and ESADE (Round 3) this year too.

I read that the GMATprep tend to give you a rather inflated GMAT Score when practicing. I guess you just became my living proof of that.

Anyway, my advice to you is focus on the strenght of your whole application if you have essays and extra-curriculars activities that represent you way better than a GMAT Score. I would also recomend you to ask IE/IESE and ESADE about their alternative admission exam. I know for a fact that IE and ESADE offer you the opportunity to do an exam of their own instead of the GMAT. There is no problem that you have already done the GMAT as they will consider it together with their proprietary exam. Get in touch with the admissions director of your region and check the next available dates.

I wouldn't advise you to do another GMAT with just weeks for the deadline as you would probably improve just 30-40 points. There are some research on the improvement of overall GMAT score for people retaking the test. I advise you to look for that on google.

I'll be starting to prepare my essays and ask for recomendation letters next week. Would you please share with me how you're tackling these? Did you get examples of past accepted essays to base yours? Did you use consultants to help you? If yes, how is it working for you?

Hope I have helped you somehow.
