If you are planning to apply for Round 1, I would focus on developing the application. That will yield a higher return on your time investment. 710 is a respectable score.

If, on the other hand, you have poor undergraduate grades, you may consider getting the scores up; it may help mitigate any concerns with your scholastic performance. Also, if you are an Indian applicant, a higher GMAT score may bring you more in line with the successful applicants from your country.

How well were you doing in the practice tests before this test, anyway?

Hope that helps.

I guess the colleges want to access all the applicants on a level playing field. Hence they consider the GMAT,which is a standardized test taken all over the world. Then why do I hear/read people saying that as an Indian its necesary to get a top notch GMAT score? The Indians definitely dont have a quota in the global B schools, nor is there any limit for Indian students.

Great question. You will find successful Indian applicants with both high and not-so-high GMAT scores. It's just that empirical/anecdotal evidence shows a higher prevalence of 700+ GMAT scores among Indian applicants. That's why you find many in the MBA community reflecting upon this. But that should not, must not, discourage those with a lower GMAT score from applying. Ultimately it is the overall profiile of an applicant that gets him/her accepted.
