Duke of York

by GmatKiss » Tue May 15, 2012 12:11 pm
Revered by an ill-informed citizenry, the Duke of York was feted opulently for several months before there was denunciation and exile.

  (A) there was denunciation and exile

  (B) he was to be denounced with exile

  (C) being denounced and exiled

  (D) denunciation and his exile

  (E) being exiled, having been denounced

..the duke of york feteted for several before..he was exiled...surprisingly, the answer with being (choice C) seems to be correct here.

what's the OA?

  (A) there was denunciation and exile - denounced and exile not parallel

  (B) he was to be denounced with exile - to be denounced with exile is wrong

  (C) being denounced and exiled - Sounds OK...wait until all are reviewed

  (D) denunciation and his exile - not parallel

  (E) being exiled, having been denounced - wrong sequence

So finally the answer should be C

Another vote for C, although the usage of being makes me a little uncomfortable. What's the OA?

+1 for C. 'being' is not wrong all the time. here it is necessary to use being.

Correct option : C)

Thoughts on usage of being: Being is generally, and not always, used redundantly in a sentence. One way to check if it is used correctly is to omit it from the sentence and check if it still makes sense. In option, omitting being makes the sentence appear distorted. Hence , being is used correctly here.
