Different v/s Difference

by dextar » Sun Mar 02, 2008 8:42 pm
Hi I'm really confused in this sc regarding the use of the word 'different' here.

The investigations of many psychologists and anthropologists support the generalization of there being liitle that is significant difference in the underlying mental processes manifested by people from different cultures

1) same
2) of there being little that is significantly different
3) of liitle that is significant different
4) that there is little that is significantly different
5) that there is little of significant differences

3) of liitle that is significant different
4) that there is little that is significantly different
5) that there is little of significant differences

almost 90% of time eliminate choices with 'being' because in GMAT, sentences with 'being' are considered wordy

'significant different' and 'there is little of significant differences' is wordy and doesnt fit in the sentence, let me know the Original Ans. Thanks :)

3) of liitle that is significant different
4) that there is little that is significantly different
5) that there is little of significant differences

There are two things being put to test here:

of vs that and difference vs different

Firstly, that is correct here. This eliminates 1, 2 and 3
Secondly, both significantly different and significant differences are correct when alone but the phrase "there is little" determines the choice significantly different instead of significant differences. Hence 4 is right.
