Q.
Professor Giles gives good grades to students who have tutored under him. After all, Alan, Mike and Susan, who scored excellent grades, tutored under him

A critique of the logic of the above argument would bring up the fact that the speaker

A. Fails to explain the professor's motive
B. Has failed to define "good grades"
c. Has an axe to grind with the professor
D. Fails to consider students who did not tutor under Prof.Giles and yet scored good grades
E. Fails to mention if all students who tutored under Prof.Giles scored good grades


I am confused between D and E
please help me

A. Irrelevant
B. Irrelevant. Grading is relative and there will be some who might think that A is great while others might say it is bad as compared to an A+. Again the question is not asking us about what are good grades, it is asking about who gets good grades.
C. Maybe or Maybe not. Inconclusive. Hence rejected.
D. The premise is about students who "did" tutor under him, not those who did not.
E. Left with E. This point would seriously question the assertions as to the professor giving good grades to all people who he has under him. If some get bad grades then the argument is refuted where as if not then the argument might stand to be true. or maybe he only takes in people who already are in the upper echelon of the class and they just need minimal guiding to get that extra aboe the above average score.

This is an unusual question. I am not sure that you would see exactly this on the actual exam.

tarunjohri is correct. E seems better than D. Remember, we are talking about all of those who study under professor Giles - not all of those who get good grades. So it does not matter if others get good grades. It does matter if Professor Giles tutored students who failed to get good grades.
