Bruno and Sacha are running in the same direction around a stadium. Sacha runs at a constant speed of 6 meters per second, and Bruno runs at a constant speed of 5 meters per second. At a certain point, Sacha overtakes Bruno. If one minute afterward, Sacha stops and waits for Bruno to reach her, then how many seconds does she have to wait?

A. 12
B. 24
C. 36
D. 60
E. 72

The OA is A.

I liked this question but I couldn't solve it. Experts, I would love if you could help me here. Thanks in advance.

If Sacha runs at 6 meters/sec and Bruno runs at 5 meters/sec, then when they're both running, Sacha pulls away from Bruno at a rate of 6-5 = 1 meter/second

1 minute, or 60 seconds, after pulling even, Sacha will be 1 * 60 = 60 meters ahead of Bruno

Once Sacha stops, Bruno will have to cover 60 meters to catch up. It will take Bruno 60/5 = 12 seconds to do so. The answer is A

Hello Vjesus12.

This is a nice question, and it is easier than you think. We have the following:

Sacha runs at a constant speed of 6 meters per second
Bruno runs at a constant speed of 5 meters per second

So, the difference between them is 1 meter per second.

If Sacha had to stop 1 minute, then she was 60 meters ahead of Bruno. Now, Bruno can run 60 meters in 60/5 =12 seconds.

It implies that Sacha had to wait 12 seconds. The correct answer is A.

In the one minute after Sasha overtakes Bruno, Bruno runs a distance of 5 x 60 = 300 meters, and Sacha runs 6 x 60 = 360 meters.

Thus, it takes Bruno 60/5 = 12 seconds to catch up to Sasha.

Answer: A
