vote for (D)

explanation -
Despite forceful legal pleas for the restitution of expropritaed cultural artifacts to the place of their origin, the british Museum continues to rebuff the Greek authorities who request that it return the Parthenon marbles removed from the Acropolis by Lord Elgin in 1806

"request that it return" is a subjunctive mood

"who" refers to Greek authorities

Here Meaning plays the important Role. It should be clear that the Greek authorities are requesting the British Museum.

Despite forceful legal pleas for the restitution of expropritaed cultural artifacts to the place of their origin, the british Museum continues to rebuff the Greek authorities requesting that it should return the Parthenon marbles removed from the Acropolis by Lord Elgin in 1806

a.
b. requesting them to Incorrect pronoun reference for British Museum
c. and its request to its should be their request bcz its greek authorities who are requesting
d. who request that it Clear meaning and correct Use of Subjunctive

A correct answer will not entice anyone unless it comes with proper explanation.

Despite forceful legal pleas for the restitution of expropritaed cultural artifacts to the place of their origin, the british Museum continues to rebuff the Greek authorities requesting that it should return the Parthenon marbles removed from the Acropolis by Lord Elgin in 1806
a.
b. requesting them to
c. and its request to
d. who request that it
e. who request them to

A. "Greek authorities requesting" is wrong usage. "Greek authorities who request" is proper. Although it is true that "requesting ..." modifies Greek Authorities, this is similar to a preposition + noun + verb-ing and one should steer clear of the construction if a better is available.
B. them is wrong reference for British Museum.it is proper. Again the same construction as "A" of "requesting"
C. rebuffing request?? changes the meaning clearly.
D.This is good.
E. use of "them" similar to B.

Hope this helps.

(A)requesting as a gerund is wrong here--INCORRECT
(B)"them" is ambiguous pronoun---INCORRECT
(C) "its" is wrong because Request is by Greek Authorities---INCORRECT
(D)"who" properly qualifies Greek Authorities so "its" goes to "British Museum"-CORRECT
(E)"them" is incorrect..See the reasoning in (D)---INCORRECT

a. requesting that it should
IMO 'should' not required (subjunctive construction)
b. requesting them to
NOUN PRONOUN MISMATCH: the british Museum ---them
c. and its request to
Use of AND inappropriate - as a result it appears 2nd part (its request to retun...) is not linked with the first part (The british..authorities);

ITS refering illogically to the british Museum's
d. who request that it
WHO refers to Greek authorities; IT refers to the british Museum.
e. who request them to
NOUN PRONOUN MISMATCH: the british Museum ---them

IMO D
