Hi All,

In the below question the answer is "D". I was able to narrow down to "D" and "E". But could not decide based on rules why "D" should be better. Can somebody please help me understand why "D" is preferred over "E".

Bottle-nosed dolphins have a highly developed sense of taste, enabling them to detect various chemicals in the water, however, since this animal has no olfactory lobe, they apparently have no sense of smell.

a) since this animal has
b) these animals have.
c) those animals have.
d) since these animals have.
e) since the dolphin has

Thanks
Mohit

If you read through the sentence,

...however, since ... no olfactory lobe, they apparently have no sense of smell.

The last part of the sentence tells it's plural.

if say we go by "E", then the "they" in "they apparently"...can't it refer to plural i.e. Bottle-Based dolphins.

Are we using option "D", to maintain parallelism throughout for plural.

Thanks

Answer is D. You need the word "since," and since the subject is plural, you'll need a plural pronoun, in this case "these."

Since we started sentence with plural so we need to stick to plural
