How I have reached to the answer:

D and E have used different verbs, and doing this changes the intended meaning of the sentence. works and prevents are not same in sense of meaning. So, D and E are out.

B is faulty for subject verb agreement.
prevents blood clots just as well as does a commonly used and a more expensive blood-thinning drug

=> I have a cheap and an user friendly book. Here, I am talking about two books. One of them is cheap and another one is user friendly.

The same has been done in the option B.

Two drugs-commonly used and another one is more expensive-have been meant. So, the verb should have been "DO".

C=> Will is not parallel to prevents.
