Approach for GMAT 2nd attempt

by prat_agl » Sat Dec 08, 2012 1:55 pm
Hi,

I gave GMAT on 26th October and scored a mere 650(49 quant and 28 verbal). I was scoring around 700 in all the mock tests that I have given so far.

There were many nervous moments before the exam which did helped in reducing the score. Most importantly when I reached the center around 30 mins prior to the exam I was told my Texas licence will not work as a photo ID and I am required to fetch my Passport. So I drive around 20-25 miles to get it.

Please suggest what should I do to improve verbal score.

Okay so I have several thoughts for you!

1) You will know to have your passport this time so that will be much better!

2) Test Anxiety: This is an area that I think about a lot and have helped many students with. Here are some articles that I have written on the subject.

3) Improving on verbal is about two things "Narrowing your Focus" and having techniques that you can trust.

This article can help you to focus on the correct portions of the CR questions.

This article can help you stay focused on the right things for RC

This articles and postings can help you focus in on sentence correction

Let me know if you have questions about specific question types in CR as I have written about each of these. Also if you have other questions from SC or RC.

Good luck studying! Hope it helps!

Thanks a lot David. These articles are really helpful.
Can you please help with CR boldface and suggest some good practice material for SC?

Here is something that I just wrote in reply to another student concerning a strategy for Bold Faced questions.

https://www.beatthegmat.com/scientists-g ... tml#539650

Here are discussions that I have had on bold-faced questions:

These are questions that I wrote and then discussed:

https://www.beatthegmat.com/bold-faced-f ... tml#307471

https://www.beatthegmat.com/salt-water-p ... tml#291765

https://www.beatthegmat.com/bold-faced-e ... tml#293014

Here are other questions that I discussed:

https://www.beatthegmat.com/bold-faced-f ... tml#307471

https://www.beatthegmat.com/bold-faced-q ... tml#294134

And here is one about the crazy bold faced that only have one portion in bold and you have to choose the best replacement rather than describing it!

Hope it helps!
