47. The Diary of Anne Frank tells the true story of a young girl and her family that were hidden during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands by a gentile Dutch couple, though they were eventually discovered.

B. that were hidden by a gentile Dutch couple during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands, though they were eventually discovered
C. whom a gentile Dutch couple hid during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands but were eventually discovered
D. who were hidden by a gentile Dutch couple during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands but were eventually discovered
E. who were hidden by a gentile Dutch couple during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands even though they were eventually discovered

IMO D

'who' correctly refers to girl and her family

who were hidden by........ but ( who understood) were eventually discovered. Parallel and conveys the correct meaning.

Keeping fingers crossed to know the OA

bmlaud,

You are correct. OA is D. I also agree with your concept of parallelism

I thought that girl and family is the object of the verb tells.
So I choose Whom and answer as C

Subject - Anne frank, who is telling story?
Object - About whom?

D also has a passive construct in it.
What is the problem with C other than relative pronoun?

I also chose C. Not sure why to use "who" for this? Can anyone please guide on this?

47. that were hidden during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands by a gentile Dutch couple, though they were eventually discovered.

D. who were hidden by a gentile Dutch couple during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands but were eventually discovered

Because:

The Diary of Anne Frank tells the true story of a young girl and her family. They (who) were hidden by a gentile Dutch couple during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands but were eventually discovered

Hi Schumi,

In this sentence the use of who or whom depends on the function of Pronoun in the subordinate clause.

In Option D 'who' acts as subject of the subordinate clause.

Option C would be correct if the sentence were written as

The Diary of Anne Frank tells the true story of a young girl and her family whom a gentile Dutch couple hid during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands but whom the Nazi discovered eventually.

E changes the meaning of the sentence and makes it illogical.
