Initial charge = $1.25

Additional charge of $0.25 for each 1/5 mile traveled.
In other words, we're charged $0.25 for each 0.2 miles traveled.
2.4/0.2 = 12
So, a 2.4-mile trip consists of twelve 0.2-mile increments
(12)($0.25) = $3.00

TOTAL COST of trip = $1.25 + $3.00
= $4.25

The number of 1/5 miles in 2.4 is (24/10)/(1/5) = (24 x 5)/10 = 24/2 = 12.

So the total cost is 1.25 + 12 x 0.25 = 1.25 + 3 = $4.25.
