68. Outlining his strategy for nursing the troubled
conglomerate back to health, the chief executive's
plans were announced on Wednesday for cutting the
company's huge debt by selling nearly $12 billion in
assets over the next 1 months.

(A) executive's plans were announced on
Wednesday for cutting the company's huge debt
by selling nearly $12 billion in assets over the
next 18 months

(B) executive's plans, which are to cut the
company's huge debt by selling nearly
$12 billion in assets over the next 18 months,
were announced on Wednesday

(C) executive's plans for cutting the company's
huge debt by selling nearly $12 billion in
assets over the next 18 months were
announced on Wednesday.

(D) executive announced plans Wednesday to cut
the company's huge debt by selling nearly
$12 billion in assets over the next 18 months

(E) executive announced plans Wednesday that
are to cut the company's huge debt by selling
nearly $12 billion in assets over the next
18 months
oa:D
My question is
shouldn't D require "on" as preposition before Wednesday, or their is misprint in my book?
D is perfect here .the fact is that Wednesday is acting as an adverb here and it wud be wrong to make an adverb an object of preposition "on" as u intend to make
for instance think of this sentence : he announced his plan today
it wud be wrong to say :he announced his plan on today

in the sentence i wrote "today" is acting as adverb !!
make sense ?

Well, following is correct:

I prepared omlette on Wednesday

Incorrect:

I prepared omlette Wednesday.

Prepositional phrases can of course be Adverbs:

He waited in the car.

you said it is acting as adverb, adverb modifying what? Can you please elaborate?

the adverb "today" is modifying verb "announced"
