The 'theory is not of global forests' so choices A, C are out.
'Evidence of support' is un-idiomatic. so choice E is out.
D is out as the sentences joins two sentences using 'AND' as though they are
independent. However, one thing caused the other and hence the usage of 'AND'
here is inappropriate.

So In my opinion the answer is 'B'


42.)
I will go for C, because

1) "as likely as" is the correct idiomatic usage. This leaves out A,B, D and E.

2) moreover the correct usage will be "plan on practicing"
