Sorry AkiB, I completely misunderstood your original post--I thought you were talking about the scaled verbal and quant scores, not the number of questions you got correct. Oops. File under: internet before coffee. Please disregard my last post, unless you really want to look at GMAT scoring charts ...

You're absolutely correct: a 28 in quant and 24 in verbal should be much higher than a 360. To get a general idea of how the two raw scores combine to create a composite score, check out the scoring charts available at http://gmatclub.com/forum/gmat-scores-83890.html or the score calculator tool at ...

Absolutely fantastic debrief. The brutal honesty is a breath of fresh air, and I'm thrilled that this made it into the weekly BTG email--it's good for all of us to read about things that went wrong, not just the things that went right for the people who just clobbered the GMAT. I was just about to w...

First of all, you have one of the best BTG usernames I've ever seen. :D There's no easy answer to your question about the score, unfortunately. Yes, a 42 is awfully low, and most adcom in quant-heavy programs wouldn't be too thrilled with that number. Then again, it really depends on the competitive...

You might also try looking through the listings on craigslist and gmatix.com to find tutors in your city. A growing number of GMAT tutors are using skype or other online tools for tutoring, so odds are good that somebody on gmatix or at an established firm will be able to help you, even if they're s...

You might also try the GMAT tutor listings on gmatix.com or craigslist--there are often some reasonably priced tutors available on those websites. Or most tutors in other cities offer virtual tutoring now, so that's always an option, too.

Good luck with your studies!

A few factors seem to be at work here, topspin360. For starters, I suspect that you saw some repeated questions on your third and fourth attempts at the GMATPrep. Even if you didn't recognize them consciously, odds are good that you at least saved a little bit of time on those questions, and it prob...

First of all, congratulations! I can see from your profile that you really wanted a 740, but a 49/40/710 is still a fantastic score. Be proud. As others have already mentioned here, the GMAT scoring system involves quite a bit of rounding. Also, the algorithm for combining your quant and verbal scor...

I'm not exactly an expert on this, but similar glitches happened to two of my students a couple of years ago, and they both received a free redo of the test. GMAC didn't make them wait another 30 days, either. Both test-takers spent a TON of time on the phone pleading their cases, but GMAC eventuall...

Well, if I were in your shoes, I would definitely prefer a 45 in quant--or even a 42 in quant--to a transcript from an online math course. If the adcom is antsy about your quant score on the GMAT, the online math course isn't guaranteed to make up for it. Then again, there's no guarantee that you'll...

Since GMAT RC passages vary in length and have different numbers of questions, it might be best to do a set of, say, 25 questions at a time if you're worried about timing. If you're doing the easier questions early in the official guide, you should ideally be able to comfortably complete 25 question...

Sorry, I'm a little bit late to the discussion, but I think BSchool2013 said it all perfectly: your best bet is to ace a quant course (or two) and/or retake the test again, even if it's past the deadline. I'm not familiar with UT's specific policies, but most MBA programs are willing to consider an ...

Wow, congratulations on the phenomenal improvement! That's a huge jump in just one month, and you should be really, really happy with what you've achieved. If you were applying to a top-20 MBA program in the United States, I would definitely advise you to re-take, since most top programs generally l...

Great story, congratulations! You should be more than OK with a 190-point improvement. That's an absolutely phenomenal achievement, and don't let anybody with a 700+ tell you otherwise. I'm certainly not an expert on the Johns Hopkins program, but a 680 is more than enough to "check the GMAT bo...
