Can someone please give me some feedback on my potential candidacy? I am also looking for some advice about which MBA admissions consultants to use. There are a ton of them out there and I have no idea who is legit or not. I am only interested in top 10 American b schools. I would also like to know ...

GMAT 720 (44V / 44M)
Guys, just took the GMAT today and received a 720. I'm not entirely dissatisfied with my score, but my quant percentile is 70%. On the Kaplan CATs I had been regularly scoring 750 with over 90% on both sections, so I was surprised to get a 70%. That being said, if I were to pick a section that I was...

Kaplan CAT vs Manhattan CAT vs OG Materials
Hey guys - I have my test coming up on Friday. Primarily, I have been using the Kaplan Premium Online system, which I find very helpful, especially its detailed feedback segment. However, I also decided to purchase the Manhattan CATs to give myself a different perspective. I have also done all the m...

Kaplan CR Question
The mayor's advisers are attempting to alter the widespread public belief that the mayor's restructuring of the city's taxation system is to blame for the poor business climate in the city. They say that the poor business climate is part of a national phenomenon and that the mayor is only blamed bec...

Kaplan CR Question
Planners in City X noticed that many of the trees in the city were dying because of exposure to increased levels of air and water pollution. A study they commissioned revealed that sycamore trees actually thrive in environments with elevated levels of carbon monoxide, the main pollutant emitted by a...

Kaplan DS Question
If x + y^2 = ( x + y^2 ) ^2 , what is the value of y ? (1) x = y^2 (2) xy^2 = 0 My question concerns the second part of the explanation. The explanation indicates that because xy^2 = 0, either x or y must be equal to zero, which makes sense. However, the explanation simply assumes x is zero and not ...

Re: Kaplan CATs
I'm not sure. I have been doing well on the Kaplan CATs except for the diagnostic, which is not a CAT. However, I found the math a lot more difficult on the GMATPrep free CATs that you can download off of mba.com. The verbal is fairly similar. My friends that did the online Kaplan test all said the ...

How did you know that the square root of 1089 is 33? I got to that point and it took me a while to figure that out. Is there a quicker way? 90/(V-3) = 1/2 + 90/(V+3) 90/(V-3) - 90/(V+3) = 1/2 [90(V+3) - 90(V-3)] / (V+3) (V-3) = 1/2 [90V + 270 - 90V +270] = [V^2 - 9]/2 540 *2 = V^2 - 9 1080 + 9 = V^2...

Kaplan CAT question
Here is a question from a Kaplan CAT and the solution. I disagree with their answer for the reasons below. Please read the question and solution and see if you agree with me. A line of people is divided into groups. Each group consists of a continuous section of the line. Samantha was the 27th perso...

Do you think the tests are consistent from CAT to CAT? Otherwise I don't really understand why I would be doing worse and worse? kaplan tests are stupid difficult (especially their reading comprehension).. they are not an accurate reflection of your score. most people score anywhere from 50-100+ poi...

Doing worse and worse on Kaplan CATs? Do they get harder?
I don't really understand what's going wrong here. I have gotten progressively worse on the CATs with no consistency on the verbal side or quant side? Diagnostic was 640, i don't have the scores but have the percentiles (62% quant / 88% verbal) CAT 1 was 750 (99% quant / 99% verbal) (scores were 51V...

Re: DS - Word Problem
Thanks -- your explanation makes a lot of sense. The following question is from a Kaplan CAT. I do not agree with the answer, can someone see if they agree or disagree? To me (2) is simply a ratio that doesn't indicate the total cost of typewriters and calculators, but please let me know if you disa...

I have had a similar experience in terms of differing scores from the diagnostic to the CATs. I do not think Kaplan is a rip-off, in fact, the premium online program has been extremely helpful. The issue, I believe, is that the diagnostic is not a CAT test, whereas all the other tests are. Is that t...

Kaplan CAT accuracy?
Hi, I have recently taken two CATs as part of the premium online program, which in general, has been very helpful. The first time I took the test ("diagnostic") I received a 640 (62% Quant, 85% Verbal percentile) (26/37 Quant, 35/41 Verbal). The second time I took the CAT ("CAT 2"...
