Re: Minorities?
Stacey, all other things being equal, does being an underrepresented minority (hispanic male) actually provide an advantage when applying to top schools? I realize there is the argument that it helps with the class diversity etc, but in your experience, have you seen it actually play a role in gain...

Leadership vs. Area of Concentration
Hi Stacy,
I was wondering which would be looked as more favorable work experience:
a managerial/supervisory position at current industry (which I will not be pursuing further)
OR
an analyst position at industry of choice post MBA
Thank you.

It's a lot easier to get a 6.0 AWA than a 40V. Let your essays speak for your writing abilities. I hear that business schools don't even care for the AWA unless it is below a 4.0

Cornell GSM
Hey Stacy, I have been reading up on Cornell GSM and especially about their Immersion Program. I can't help but think that the Immersion Program is ideal for career switchers and gives a distinct advantage to the Cornell job applicant. How does the Cornell student fair compared with other East Coast...

I suggest a Calculus course. Taking 1-2 extra courses at the best school possible, and doing well, plus a 700 would be great. Those details will help, but are only a piece of this process, which is wholistic. Those two things will not make or break you. It is definitely worth applying to a higher r...

That's a fantastic score, excellent in fact because I got the same score. Congrats! Now, if you want the bad news, scroll down . . . Your quant score might be too low for some of the top flight schools. Quant score is the best predictor for 1st year success. Also, depending on what you want to do af...

I've read somewhere that bschools don't even look at the AWA essays unless there is something wrong, I guess a score of less than 4. I would recommend to your students to write as much as they can for about 15 minutes for each AWA and save their energy for the real part of the test. If they are grea...

Re: stanford - essays
• Essay A: What matters most to you, and why? Stacey and others: I actually thought one could write about what matters most in life in terms of values and experiences but then I read on one of the mba boards that this question should really be about tying together your work experiences. Is that rea...

Just personal taste? or is there research based reasoning for your high regard for PB&J?beatthegmat wrote:I strongly believe that peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are the perfect standardized test food.
Eat a big PB&J before your test, and it will keep you going strong for the 3 hours--it worked for me!

I have used the manhattan gmat books and they are all excellent. I was a know-it-all in math, and yet I learned something new in each of the quant books. As for the sentence correction book, it is the bible of all sentence correction books. It is as important as the OG. As important as the sentence ...

2nd in your class and a 450 on your gmat? something's not tying together.
You're going to have to prioritize, just as you well have to on the gmat, and maybe use some vacation time for your gmat.

Re: Taking days off before the G-Day
Since I work full time I was planning to take one day off before the test. Should I take more? I had two days off prior to day of exam. I spent the first of those two days taking two gmatprep's. the second day, i relaxed but did a couple of exercises. I actually learned a new method for overlapping...

Re: GMAT and Admissions Committee
Hi Stacy Question on gmat and ad commit - once app is received and lets say GMAT score is low 500's/early 600's and your app is going to stanford, will they dismiss it right away based on the scores or will they still look at entire app to determine if it can go anywhere? I am trying to understand ...
