The answer has to be D.
As per the meaning analysis of E..." A raisin in the Sun" is the subject. Hence there is no need for "it" after the connector "and".. In D notice how there is no reference made to the subject again.

In option A the verb-ing modifier rule ie. following a clause with a comma applies, it rightly modifies the preceding clause. In options B "the number" cant include the prizes...so its wrong. In C and D we have "numbers of prizes" In E... nothing is told about the type of poetry ...

It cant go by paralellism because "lying" is a noun and "creating" is a verb.. they have to be logically parallel.
Also verb-ing modifies the preceding noun when it is without a comma.

Answer should be C since in option E "preventing" modifies the whole of previous clause....trying to mean as if "sound prevents its energy from dissipating" which is incorrect.

In option B "omitting" has to modifying the whole of the preceding clause. But in such case it has to also mention who is omitting which B does not do.
Hence A should be the answer.

Hi,
Can someone please explain how we can write "the elephant is descended..". It should have been "the elephant descended.." Is option E not ambiguous because of that?
