Profile:
White Male, single parent/poor upbringing, first to attend and graduate college in my family
Age: 29 (30 upon matriculation)
UG: Michigan, polisci BA, 3.58 GPA, many honors courses, worked 20 hrs a week throughout; fraternity and IM sports, among other activities
Law: BU, median gpa, worked 15-20 hours throughout; President of entertainment-related student organization and involved in various school activities (running orientation, mentoring first-years, foreign student liaison) and public interest work during school.
WE: CA admitted, practicing for 5+ years in entertainment law for a production company as well as independently the last 2 years. General counsel of an educational/entertainment startup for 3 years (that failed ...)
GMAT: 730, 47Q, 44V, 8 IR, 6.0 AWA
Extracurrics: Tutoring (have done so since HS) and lead instructor for law school tutoring company in CA; mentor underprivileged HS students for Build.org; recreational sports (ice hockey/softball); pro bono work for independent artists
I want to focus on improving the advancement of education, through content and technology. Work for a couple of established companies (either an edtech company or an entertainment company in a kids/educational division) for a few years, then start my own company. The MBA will be useful both to make the law->business switch and improve business knowledge, but also to gain experience (with projects and internship) in the ed/tech industry.
My present plan (applying all Round 2) is to apply to Ross, Stern, Anderson, and Haas--looking for another school or two to consider. I am hoping for significant scholarship aid, given my earlier law school debt. Am I aiming too high? Any comments about my chances at these schools, as well as any other school suggestions, would be helpful.
Thanks!

You're in range for these schools (most attorneys applying to b-school come from the corp law/Wall Street side, so the fact that you're an entertainment/IP guy helps) - just don't count on scholarships unless you are willing to venture outside the top 16 schools (i.e. schools like USC, Texas, Georgetown, etc may offer a better shot at scholarships).ProleFeed13 wrote:Profile:

In short, it just comes down to doing the best you can on the applications, and you should have a reasonable shot of getting into the schools you listed.

Congratulations on being the first in your family to graduate from college.
I think you might be able to add some more competitive schools to this list, like perhaps Columbia.
Best of luck,
