Request for profile evaluation

by Richa12345 » Thu Jan 10, 2013 1:30 am
Hi,

I am currently in India. I will be applying to business schools next year and hence request your guidance and views on my profile. Additionally, would solicit your feedback on how I can strengthen my profile.

Class X: 88.2% class XII: 87.6%.

Bachelors degree:
1) University of Delhi (My college is constantly ranked the best for arts in India). Graduated in Economics and Maths with 67.67% and stood 23rd at the university level out of 8000 students.
2) I was very active in college. Was involved in community service, had published white papers, selected as the placement cell coordinator. During my tenure as the placement cell coordinator, we had the highest number of placements in the university. I also designed the placement brochure and placement cell report, something done for the first time in 50 yrs of the college.

Masters degree:
London School of Economics. Graduated with a merit from LSE in international employment relations and human resource management. Was selected as a student tutor and taught kids from low income communities in London for a year. I got a higher merit in my thesis.

Work experience:
1)Interned with a big 4 firm and offered full time job in India.
2)Worked as a HR business partner for 2 years and received 4 awards for outstanding performance, promoted within a year of my joining, got the highest rating in performance reviews. I had managed over 1000 professionals as part of my role. Primary responsibilities were performance management and employee engagement.
3)Led some projects such as restructuring internship program's at national level.
4)While at the firm, I continued volunteering activities and taught kids.

Present:
After 2 years in the corporate sector, I quit my job and joined an NGO as a fellow and I am now teaching full time in a low income community. I have initiated classroom and school wide projects. One project is on setting up of a toy library which will be accessed by approximately 500 kids in the area. I have raised funds for the same and this is has been done as my students have grown up in a violent society and have never really had a chance to experience childhood. In my own way, I want these children to develop skills by playing games.

I am yet to give my GMAT. With such a profile, wanted to understand what kind of schools can I target and how can I further enhance my profile?

Thank you.

Hey there Richa!

Soo first of all, in your profile which is somewhat of an interesting and unique one, I'd say the the first and foremost think to think about it your STORY... Right now I have you with a Masters from LSE, but working at an NGO... How does that fit? How does one lead to the other? And how do this lead into your desire to get an MBA? And how does the MBA lead into your ST and LT goals. Since you went from one thing to another, this will be particularly important for you.

As for evaluating your chances and the schools, this is a bit more complicated, and requires some deep digging and your GMAT. The first thing I would have to know is WHY you want an MBA. Then your GMAT and then a short list of schools you are thinking about. (I could just suggest from scratch, but it helps for me to get an idea of what sort of programs you are looking at)
