Greetings! I am looking for some help in evaluating my profile and any tips to make my application stronger. Thanks in advance!
Profile:
27 year old white male
3.15 GPA, B.A. in Economics, minor in Russian Language and Culture from a top 25 liberal arts school (3.5 GPA in Major, upward trend sophomore-senior)
NCAA Lacrosse Captain, awarded for leadership as a Senior
4 years as a Marine Corps Combat Arms (Artillery) Officer stationed in Hawaii with 2 deployments to Japan training foreign militaries, regularly identified as a top performer in key billets (I will be doing another ~2 years in a secondary billet in order to diversify my leadership and life experience)
Initial GMAT: 700 (7 IR/Q47/V40), Retake: 760 (8 IR/Q49/V44)
Pursuing an MBA in order to transition into Strategic Consulting or perhaps Finance

Hi there,
Thanks for sharing your profile! Academically, while your GPA is weak, Admissions Committees definitely like to see an upward trend, so that should work in your favor. In addition, you did really well on the GMAT, so that should alleviate any concerns about being able to handle the rigor of the curriculum. The one element that I don't have a handle on is what you are currently doing on the extracurricular side. Based on the information that you have provided, that is an area that you can bolster.
I hope that helps!

Well the short of it is: yeah don't worry. You have the GMAT which proves your brilliant. And you come from the Marine Corps as an officer. You can apply to only Top 10 schools without a problem, just make a great and passionate application. and if there are other schools you like, add them as well.
One thing to watch out for though is those goals - Marine Corps to finance??? But why?!!! It's sooooo... well... basic... Why not USE your experience to move to something more unique/interesting? (politics? defense? government consulting?)
Anyhow, if you have any further questions or would like a deeper more full-on profile review feel free to drop us a line:

I would say this is a great profile so it will all come down to how confident you are in your essay writing capabilities and the references you are going to get. If the application is done right I don't see any of these schools as out of reach for you. (Don't worry about the GPA, the new GMAT score makes up for that!)jmsheehan5 wrote:Greetings!
