7.5 $ # 9
What digit does $ represent if each of $ and # are single digits in the above decimal?

If the decimal is rounded to the nearest hundredth, the result is 7.55
If the decimal is rounded to the nearest tenth, the result is 7.5

I got a l'l stuck on the second statement.

I also dint understand what they meant by this sentence in their OE------>
Notice that according to our rounding rules, this statement implies that the digit in the hundredths spot (the digit represented by the $ ) in the original decimal, was less than 5
Can someone help me find quicker yet detailed approaches for this Q + difficulty level of this Q ?

thanks

1. If the decimal was 7.5479 it would have been rounded to 7.55 ; If the decimal was 7.5529 it would have been rounded to 7.55 => $ can be 5 or 4
Insufficient

2. => $ is less than 5 (otherwise it would have rounded to 7.6) - insufficient $ can be 0,1,2,3 or 4

Combining,
$=4

We can actually

Both the statements talk about only $

First says it is either 4 or 5
second says it is less than 5

so we can conclude that $ is 4
