how to make this equation true??

If |x| + |y| = -x - y and xy does not equal 0, which of the following must be true?

x + y > 0
x + y < 0
x - y > 0
x - y < 0
x2 - y2 > 0


|x| + |y| = -x - y im confused as what numbers satisfy this equation! plz assist!
i got utterly defeated by the gmat.

IMO D

If X = -2 and Y = 2, then we will have
|-2| + |2| = -(-2) x 2
4 = 4

In choice D ... X x Y < 0 from abouve we also have (-2) x (2) < 0

opz sorry about that here is the question
