By providing such services as mortgages, home improvement loans, automobile loans, financial advice, and staying within the metropolitan areas, Acme Bank has become one of the most profitable savings banks in the nation.

A- financial advice, and staying
B- financial advice, and by staying
C- and financial advice, staying
D- and financial advice, and staying
E- and financial advice, and by staying

correct answer is E

My argument is in the next post to avoid spoiling.

Why is D wrong? It seems to me that both D and E could be correct.

I imagined it something like this:

By:

1- Providing
and
2- Staying

Acme Bank has succeeded.

OR

1- By providing
and
2- By succeeding

Acme Bank has succeeded.

Why can't it be parallel in both ways?

Arsene...

I think when we introduce 'and' before 'financial advice', the implication of by would end there. It wouldn't apply to anything that comes after 'financial advice'. So we need to bring in a 'by' again.

Please note that financial advice is a service and NOT staying so need to have AND financial service as its the last of the services. Also we need to have By staying as its parallel to By providing.

Hence E.)

I do not understand you.

I think it "by " is not repeated we have " by providing and (advice and staying)" .This is not logic. we need to repeat "by"

B is wrong because

By providing such services as mortgages, home improvement loans, automobile loans, financial advice...

doesn't work. Financial advice is the last noun in a list, so it needs to be preceded by "and".
