A certain furniture store must choose between trucking companies A and B for its local deliveries. If company A charges per delivery, and company B charges per week plus a mileage charge, which company would cost the store less?
(1) Company A charges $45 per delivery and company B charges $600 per week plus $0.15 per kilometer traveled.
(2) The furniture store has an average of 16 deliveries per week with an average weight per delivery of 235 kilograms.

Statement 1
Company A charges 45 dollars per delivery and Company B charges 600 dollars per week plus 0.15 dollar per kilometer
The total delivery made was not given, hence Company A's charges is unknown. For Company B; number of weeks and total distance to be covered will determine the cost.
Statement 1 is INSUFFICIENT.

Statement 2
The furniture store has an average of 16 deliveries per week with an average weight per delivery of 235 kilograms. This does not provide us with any information on what Company A or B charges, hence statement 2 is INSUFFICIENT.

Combining both statement 1 and 2 together
The average weight is not significant.
To find the cost of Company A, we need Total numbers of deliveries.
To find the cost of Company B, we need Total distance covered.
Total distance to cover is not provided, hence both statement together is NOT enough to find the company that cost less.

(1) Company A charges $45 per delivery and company B charges $600 per week plus $0.15 per kilometer traveled.
(2) The furniture store has an average of 16 deliveries per week with an average weight per delivery of 235 kilograms.
Given:

Company A's charges: Per delivery
Company B's charges: Per week + A mileage charge

We have to determine which of the two companies would charge less to the store.

Say the number of deliveries per week = n and mileage per week = m

Let's take each statement one by one.

(1) Company A charges $45 per delivery and company B charges $600 per week plus $0.15 per kilometer traveled.

Company A's charges = 45n
Company B's charges = 600 + 0.15m

Can't compare the two. Insufficient.

(2) The furniture store has an average of 16 deliveries per week with an average weight per delivery of 235 kilograms.

Company A's charges = (Charges per deliver)*16
Company B's charges = No information given

There is no role of weight per delivery

(1) and (2) together

Company A's charges = 45*16
Company B's charges = 600 + 0.15m

Value of m is not known.

Even both the statements together are insufficient.

The correct answer: E

Hope this helps!
