I have a few question pertaining to the verbal section on GMAT, i have taken 1 GMATprep and 1 MGMAT till date, i've analyzed my performance on both of these tests, scores are as follows.

1. GMAT prep - 15 Jan - 640 - Q - 47 , V - 32
2. MGMAT1 - 8 Feb - 640 Q - 45 , V - 33

On analyzing these tests, i found that Verbal Section is my nemesis. Between 15 Jan and 8 Feb, i have gone through most of my verbal section materials. Though the data set is currently too little to make any concrete conclusions, Here are my hit rates of specific sections in verbal.

RC - GMAT Prep - 84.62 % MGMAT - 58.33 %
SC - GMAT Prep - 64.71% MGMAT - 46.68%
CR - GMAT Prep - 45.45% MGMAT - 57.14%

In my Verbal - GMAT prep i got 80 % of the First 10 questions Right, 70 % of the next 10 questions right, 60 % of the next 10 questions right, 50 % of the next 10 questions right and i got the last one right. - My final score - 32

Which is in stark comparison of my Math Score, where i got, i got 80 % of the First 10 questions Right, 50 % of the next 10 questions right, 60 % of the next 10 questions right, 28 % of the next 7 questions right - My final score - 47

Now since the test is adaptive, so ideally in both the cases, the difficulty level should increase as i get the questions right, so my hit rate should ideally decrease because logically speaking, the difficulty level of questions is increasing. However, even though my hit rate in verbal was better than my hit rate in quant, my overall score in verbal is abysmal. (My target score: 700)

Can some one explain the apparent paradox (almost seems like a CR question). Can someone also throw some light on how the verbal scoring algorithm works, and what i should do to push my score in verbal.

Experts please help.

The reason for this is that more people do better on quant than verbal, so you have to do better in regards to the other GMAT test takers. The reason for the discrepancy is probably the number of international students that take the exam. When I took my GMAT prep test, I got 32 out of 41 right and got a 40 on verbal, but I missed 13 math questions and got a 46 on quant. Its just the nature of the test.

Thanks :) Any tips on pushing my score from 32 level in verbal to 40's, my test date is 6 March.

Between this point i plan to take 4 Kaplan Tests, 4 MGMAT's and GMAT prep2 and GMATprep1 Repeat and GMAT prep 2 Repeat.

Already working on Kaplan 800 verbal.

So basically one test every alternate day, followed by thorough analysis of my mistakes.

I honestly feel that taking that many test is a waste of time. I would just use CATs to perfect timing. Use book materials to focus specifically on verbal, this will help you make progress faster.
