Whereas lines of competition are clearly defined in the more established industries, in the Internet industry they are blurred and indistinct, as companies that compete one day may be partners the next.

A. Whereas lines of competition are clearly defined in the more established industries, in the Internet industry they are blurred and indistinct, as companies that compete
B. Although the lines of competition are clearly defined in industries that are more established, they are blurred and indistinct in the Internet industry, as competing companies
C. The lines of competition are clearly defined in the more established industries, unlike the Internet where they are blurred and indistinct, as companies that compete
D. Unlike more established industries, where the lines of competition are clearly defined, they are burred and indistinct in the Internet industry, as companies that compete
E. Unlike more established industries, with clearly defined lines of competition, those of the Internet industry are blurred and indistinct, as competing companies

OA A

Some scientists contend that many species of dinosaur had a metabolism more like a warm-blooded mammal’s than a cold-blooded reptile’s.

A. that many species of dinosaur had a metabolism more like
B. that the metabolism of many dinosaur species were more like
C. that the metabolisms of many species of dinosaurs were more like those of
D. there were many species of dinosaurs that had metabolisms more like those of
E. there were many dinosaur species that had a metabolism more like that of

OA A

Don't we have an illogical comparisons in both the above OAs.

1) First compares lines of competition with the internet industries.
2) Compares many species with warm blooded mammal's metabolism.. I chose C just for the logical comparison.
Where am I going wrong? Please help.. Gmat in 2 days and am freaking out!

Hi Tejaswini

For # 1

Whereas lines of competition are clearly defined in the more established industries, in the Internet industry they are blurred and indistinct, as companies that compete one day may be partners the next.

A. Whereas lines of competition are clearly defined in the more established industries, in the Internet industry they are blurred and indistinct, as companies that compete
B. Although the lines of competition are clearly defined in industries that are more established, they are blurred and indistinct in the Internet industry, as competing companies (competing companies ??)
C. The lines of competition are clearly defined in the more established industries, unlike the Internet where they are blurred and indistinct, as companies that compete (unlike the Internet .This throws the sentence off as we are comparing industry with Internet)
D. Unlike more established industries, where the lines of competition are clearly defined, they are burred and indistinct in the Internet industry, as companies that compete (where the lines of competition are clearly defined should not be a modifier)
E. Unlike more established industries, with clearly defined lines of competition, those of the Internet industry are blurred and indistinct, as competing companies (with clearly defined lines of competition should not be a modifier)

Some scientists contend that many species of dinosaur had a metabolism more like a warm-blooded mammal’s than a cold-blooded reptile’s.

A. that many species of dinosaur had a metabolism more like
B. that the metabolism of many dinosaur species were more like (metabolism and were )
C. that the metabolisms of many species of dinosaurs were more like those of (metabolisms.Dinosaurs have only 1 kind of metabolism)
D. there were many species of dinosaurs that had metabolisms more like those of (again metabolisms)
E. there were many dinosaur species that had a metabolism more like that of (more like that of too wordy)
