Since February, the Federal Reserve has

by chocoswiss » Sat Oct 16, 2010 9:00 am
Since February, the Federal Reserve has raised its short-term interest rate target five times, and because of the economy's continued strength, analysts have been predicting for weeks that the target will be raised again in November.
A. because of the economy's continued strength, analysts have been predicting for weeks that the target will
B. with the economy's strength continuing, analysts predicted for weeks that the target
C. because the economy continues strong, analysts predicted for weeks that the target would
D. due to the economy's continued strength, analysts have been predicting for weeks that the target
E. due to the fact of the economy's continued strength, analysts predicted for weeks that the target will

I chose D but OA is A

someone explain why A?
thanks!

never choose "due" instead of becuase in GMAT because its always not right
A makes sense, not many erros
B, with is not good and because its "predict" thus we will need future tense here thus we will need will or would
since the sentence used present tense thus we need " predict" and will here
A is good

IMO A

B C E use wrong tense-predicted.
D should have will to be correct

The sentence starts with "since February". This phrase indicates an ongoing action, as a result, we want to use the present perfect tense: "have been predicting for weeks." Furthermore, to use the past tense "predicted" would indicate that they are no longer making such a prediction again, not what we want here, logically.

A - Best option of all. Correct Answer.
B - analysts predicted is past tense, present perfect is required. "economy's strength continuing" changes the meaning.
C - analysts predicted is past tense, present perfect is required.
D - "because" is preferred than "due to"
E - analysts predicted is past tense, present perfect is required.

If it is between because vs. due to, choose because.
