There is "severely" in E and it should be severe. It is parallel w/ numerous, not w/ incresingly.

IMO: C severe parallel with numerous, both compliment for critics
severely cannot compliment for numerous
severely cannot compliment for numerous

We use ADVERBS to modify:
1. ADJECTIVES (e.g. "increasingly numerous")
2. VERBS (e.g. my brother drives well)
3. ANOTHER ADVERB (e.g. My brother drives very carefully)
We use ADJECTIVES to modify nouns (e.g. "severe critics")
Good luck!!
