Let's take each statement one by one.

(1) x > 3/40.

=> x > 0.075. Since x > 0.075, it is greater than 0.05. Sufficient.

(2) x is greater than 3 percent of 50.

=> x > 3% of 50
x > 3*50/100
x > 1.5.

Since x > 1.5, it is greater than 0.05. Sufficient.

The correct answer: D

Hope this helps!
