From a drawer containing black, blue and gray solid-color socks, including at least three socks of each color, how many matched pairs can be removed?

(1) The drawer contains 11 socks.

(2) The drawer contains an equal number of black and gray socks.

1) is Insufficient

2) 3,9,3 gives 6 pairs 3,7,3 gives 5 pairs - Insufficient

combining

4,3,4 gives 5 pairs; 3,5,3 gives 4 pairs .. Insufficient

IMO E

1)Once those first nine socks have been removed, only two socks remain, but we do not have sufficient information about the color of the two socks to solve the problem

2)no information about how many socks are in the drawer.

1+2: insuff

St.1: Since we don't know the exact number of each socks so we can't make out the matched pairs.. ...insuff.

St.2: black gray are equal but then also we don't know what is the value of each ...insuff.

combined: again insuff. total = 11 black = gray and there should be atleast 1 of each
many such combo are possible
blue 1 black = gray = 5
blue = 3 black = gray = 4
blue = 5 black = gray = 3
blue = 7 black = gray = 2
blue = 9 black = gray = 1

so insufficient........Ans E

i agreed that either 1 or 2 is insufficient.
but it seems that 1+2 is insufficient, too.

11-9=2 socks. we can distribute 2remainder socks in two ways, which blue=gray in both figures:
I) black 5, blue 3, gray 3
II) black 3, blue 4, gray 4

so 1&2, together, are insufficient.

what do you think?
