The Dancing Doll line sold slightly more than $3.5 million worth of toys last year, 40% mroe than the Teeny Tiny Trucks line did and newarly 3 times as much as the Basic Blocks line's sales.

A. the Teeny Tiny Trucks line did and newarly 3 times as much as the Basic Blocks line's sales
B. the Teeny Tiny Trucks did and nearly 3 times what the Basic Blocks' sales were
C. the Teeny Tiny Trucks line sold and nearly 3 times as much as Basic Blocks' sales.
D. the Teeny Tiny Trucks line and nearly 3 times more than Basic Blocks' sales
E. the Teeny Tiny Trucks line and nearly 3 times more than the Basic Blocks line
OA: E
but my pick was C since in E it is not obvious which items are compared.. in fact the amount of sales are the point of comparison.. therefore, to me we have to say 'than .......... sold and nearly 3 times as much as ....'s sales'could you please clarify me

My Q is that '3 times more than' correct or '3 times as much as'?
According to MGMAT, this is a wrong sentence "the man is five times older than his grand son"
it should be replaced by "five times as old as" otherwise the original sentence means that the man is 6 times older than his grandson.

The first issue with C that I noticed is the use of much. You are talking about how many dollars are being generated from sales. Dollars are a countable object (one dollar, two dollar. Saying that always helps me) , so you would need to use more, not much. He has more/many Dollars vs he has much dollars. Also in E, because The Doll Line is not underlined, you know for a fact that is what is being compared. The Doll Line to the Teeny Trucks line to the Basic Blocks Line. You are not comparing Doll Line to Teeny Trucks Line to the Basic Blocks Sales.

I am no GMAT expert, but that's my reasoning why I chose E.

My choice is A due to below reasons
Sales of each line are compared so that leaves with answer choices A and C.
A is more apt as it matches the parallelism of The Dancing Doll line sold with the Teeny Tiny Trucks line did and the Basic Blocks line's sales
OA: E
.
A wrnog because of 'did' - it can a good option provided we had 'sell' (ie to signify did sell)somewhere else in main clause
B - same as A (note here, were is correct as 'sold indicating the presence of complete verb ie were sold' is available). Moreover the comparison is not between lines here ie Dancing Doll LINE ...Teeny Tiny Trucks ... Basic Blocks'
D - comparison is not btn parallel elements Dancing Doll LINE ...Teeny Tiny Trucks line (OK)...Basic Blocks' (not OK)..
C - is very close but it's not as parallel as E in which we have parallel elements ie Dancing Doll LINE ...Teeny Tiny Trucks line (OK)...Basic Blocks LINE (OK)..

IMO E
