The Godfather

by csandeepreddy » Sun Oct 19, 2008 6:12 pm
According to Italy's top anti-Mafia prosecutor, the ailing mobster came to take refuge in Corleone, a town famous because of “The Godfather” and near to those he most trusted.

A. the ailing mobster came to take refuge in Corleone, a town famous because of “The Godfather” and near to those he most trusted
B. famous because of “The Godfather,” the ailing mobster came to take refuge in Corleone, a town near to those he most trusted
C. the ailing mobster, famous because of “The Godfather,” came to take refuge in Corleone, a town near to those he most trusted
D. near to those he most trusted, the ailing mobster came to take refuge in Corleone, a town famous because of “The Godfather”
E. Corleone, famous because of “The Godfather,” was the town that the ailing mobster came to take refuge in because it was near to those he most trusted

A

everything else changes the intended meaning in varied manners. the intended meaning is that corleone is the city that got famous and is close to the sick mobster's trusted.

Same question, what is wrong with E?
a town famous because of "The Godfather" and near to those he most trusted.
I felt A is wrong as and above suggests that he came to take refuge as this town was both famous and close to people he trusted

However E says that he came to refuge as this town was close to those he trusted (being famous is not the reason for him to take refuge but just an information).

I think E gives a more clear information.

Can someone clarify this?

I would go with A.

In E take refuge in because ....sounds absurd. Also, E is much wordy.

IMO E.
a town famous because of "The Godfather" and near to those he most trusted.

The last sentence is a modifier that tells us about the TOWN that it was famous for the GODFATHER and that the town was near to those he most trusted. Being famous had no relation with the other feature, and AND gives that meaning
