730!! 50Q/40V

by dinky88 » Mon Aug 13, 2012 5:04 pm
Long time lurker here. Just got back from the test center and saw a 730 flash on the screen. I could not believe it and had to wait about 20 minutes before I felt comfortable enough to drive.

I spent the past 2 months repeatedly doubting myself, reading sites that told me my practice scores were too far away from the scores I wanted (710+), and working harder and harder because of it. Yesterday and today I was so nervous and really doubting myself, but I didnt want to study, so all I did was focus on this forum and read success stories. It really got my confidence back up.

Practice Scores:
Veritas Practice 1 (6/3) - 670 - Q47/V39 first diagnostic test before starting a course
Veritas Practice 2 (6/24) - 600 - Q37/V37
Veritas Practice 3 (7/4) - 630 -Q43/V35
Gmat Prep 1 (7/23) - 640 - Q47/V31
Gmat Prep 2 (8/11) - 690 - Q44/V40

I think the best way I raised my score was focusing on verbal. Once I realized I could do well on quant (just a lot of stupid mistakes which I repeated a lot so I could keep a look out for them during the test) I spent the last 2 weeks focused completely on SC.

I used the Vertias Prep in class sessions as well as the OG v12 and PowerScore SC. Essentially most of my improvement came from hammering through practice question after practice question and noticing trends, then spending a day focusing on only that weakness.

I am very nervous about my IR score though, there was a passage that just made no sense to me when I was reading it. It didnt seem to properly link the passage to the table at all, so I'm worried that will be a low score (hopefully doesnt require me to retake - i dont think I take it over due to an IR or AWA score).

Best advice I have is stay confident, believe in yourself, and notice trends in your mistakes and then hone in on them. Still in shock.

Congrats on a great score.

And I wouldn't worry too much about the IR score if you're planning to apply this year. B-schools don't really know how to judge it yet.

What kind of questions did u encounter during the exam, especially in quant.Which topics u feel one should stress more on in quant?
