If the public library shared by the adjacent towns of Redville and Glenwood were relocated from the library’s current, overcrowded building in central Redville to a larger, available building in central Glenwood, the library would then be within walking distance of a larger number of library users. That is because there are many more people living in central Glenwood than in central Redville, and people generally will walk to the library only if it is located close to their homes.
10. Which one of the following, if true, most strengthens the argument?
(A) The public library was located between Glenwood and Redville before being moved to its current location in central Redville.
(B) The area covered by central Glenwood is approximately the same size as that covered by central Redville.
(C) The building that is available in Glenwood is smaller than an alternative building that is available in Redville.
(D) Many of the people who use the public library do not live in either Glenwood or Redville.
(E) The distance that people currently walk to get to the library is farther than what is generally considered walking distance.

"If the public library shared by the adjacent towns of Redville and Glenwood"
I would go with D.
I would go with D.

In order to strengthen an argument, one of the method is to eliminate possible problems with the data, according to PowerScore's Logical Reasoning Bible. B does this by showing that central Glendwood and central Redville are about the same geographic size, therefore, making a fare "apple to apple, orange to orange" comparison, and that central Glenwood isn't more populous because it is much larger in size, but because it is more densely populated.
I too initially chose E, but B makes sense.

Umar82 I too chose E first. Now I agree with B.
All E says is again something about distance . This advantage of lesser distance from the new location is already given in the stem. If we choose E we are going to repeat what is already stated in the stem.
If you choose B it clarifies the doubt that the new place has no significant disadvantage when it comes to area. Now we have the advantage of distance and area wise we are the same indirectly strengthening the argument.
so B is better I guess.
Let me know your thoughts.

It does, but I am thinking how far will my instincts work to choose B over E on the day of exam :roll:Tryingmybest wrote:Umar82 I too chose E first. Now I agree with B.
