Where do I stand?

by ash_iitr » Wed Dec 01, 2010 11:16 pm
Need some help with my profile evaluation - which schools should i opt for... currently i'm looking at LBS, Haas, Tepper, Johnson. Should I look at Wharton, Booth as well?

I'm an architect from IIT Roorkee - GPA 7.35/10, mainly because I scored low in architectural design, but was great in analytical subjects like structural analysis, building economics, mathematics, numerical methods. Took entrepreneurship development strategies and industrial sociology as electives.
12th Boards - 80%
10th Boards - 87%
Gmat: targeting score 700-720

Cleared both IIT JEE and CBSE Medical Entrance Exams in 2004, and opted for IIT Roorkee.

Had an internship with Daniel Libeskind (of Freedom Towers fame) at his New York Office for 3 months in 2007.

Have been working with Dar Group(https://www.dargroup.com) as Architect since May 2009 will have around 27 months of workex by the time of joining. Worked on two projects pursuing LEED Green Building certification, was a project architect for the President of Angola's Private Villa and New Assembly building of Angola, also worked on various overseas projects mainly in the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

I am a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, US Green Building Council) accredited professional.

Extra Curriculars:

Was fellow of National Cadet Corps for two years and commanded the engineers company (with 113 Cadets) for the second year.
Involved in various event organizing activities during college festivals (both techincal and cultural festivals)
Regular blood donor, have helped organizing blood donation drives in college campus.
Presented a paper on traffic analysis (Stressed mainly on Energy Requirements and Traffic Congestion) of New Delhi and the impact of Delhi Metro on it.

Forgive me, I had a very small chuckle when I read this. I come from South East Asia where most of us are mad gamers - so I understand how hardcore your DOTA achievement is. Having said that, I probably wouldn't put it on my CV or mention it on my essays.

Beyond that, I like the fact that you're an architect with some very interesting projects behind you. You don't have the traditional South Asian IT background - so you're already ahead of that pack. If you get a solid GMAT score, you should definitely be looking at a Wharton, Booth or Sloan - hell even HBS or Stanford. I've trawled though hundreds of Profile Evals on this forum, and you are the only Indian with your background. That says a lot.

Woo well done on the 730!

It's way way too late for R2 if you haven't started. As for R3, your chances are slim simply becuase there are less spots. You can apply, it won't cost you anything except the application fee. Pehaps consider applying next year? In 2011 for admission into 2012 class. Otherwise if you re-apply to the schools you didnt get into R3, you have to deal with the reapplication essay.
