Sports magazine.

by pandeyvineet24 » Mon Nov 16, 2009 8:36 pm
A greater number of sports magazine are sold in town A than are sold in town B. Therefore, the citizens of town A are
better informed about international sporting competitions than are citizens of town B

Each of the following weakens the conclusion Except.

(1) Town A has a larger population than town B
(2) Many citizens of town B have second homes in town A and have all their leisure magazines delivered there.
(3) The average citizen of Town B spends more time watching cable sports coverage of international sports that does the
average citizen of town A.
(4) A weekly magazine devoted entirely to high school football is published in town A, where high school footbal is considered
the most popular sport.
(5) The average price of a magazine subscription in Town A is lower than average price in town B.

please post your reasoning for the answers.

I'm going with D. All the other options weaken the conclusion and D doesn't strengthen or weaken. Let me know if I'm off

Weekly football magazine is diff from sports magazine about international sporting competitions. Hence people of town A may not be as informed about international sporting competitions as TOWN B .. Hence this weakens
(5) The average price of a magazine subscription in Town A is lower than average price in town B.---Neither weakens nor strengthens.

Tricky one...

IMO E

Option E.....yes the prices are low in town A and that makes them more aware about international sports because they read more (they have cheap access to media so they are better informed....this strengthens the argument that they are well aware ).

Option C weakens the argument by saying Town B ppl are more informed by watching television. Here we have except question. So it can't be C.

Option D says citizens of Town A are informed about only local sports but not about international sports. So this weakens the argument.
