Connie: This season, new episodes of my favorite television program are even more entertaining than previous episodes; so the program should be even more popular this season than last season.
Karl: I disagree. After all, we both know that the chief aim of television networks is to maximize advertising revenue by increasing the popularity of their programs. But this season the television networks that compete with the one that shows your favorite program are showing reruns of old programs during the same time slot as your favorite program.
Which of the following, if true, would provide the most support for Karl's response to Connie's argument?
A: What Connie considers entertaining does not necessarily coincide with what most television viewers consider entertaining.
B: Entertaining television shows are not necessarily popular as well.
C: Television networks generally schedule their most popular shows during the same time slots as their competitors' most popular shows.
D: Certain educational programs which are not generally considered entertaining are nevertheless among the most popular programs.
E: The most common reason for a network to rerun a television program is that a great number of television viewers request the rerun.
OA: E
I am confused over C and E.

It seems that C is attractive but incorrect because of following reason
your favorite program are showing reruns of old programs during the same time slot as your favorite program
Am I right?

I think there is one more hint. Option C mentions the most popular programs and the program in this case might/might not be the most popular program of the television network.
It was mentioned in the Connie's argument that it is her favorite program which by no means makes it necessarily the most popular program and hence it does not necessarily find a mention in the option C.
Please correct me if I'm wrong

I disagree, says karl, what does he disagree with ?? that connie's serial is more popular this year. He implies that connie's serial is not the most popular, then he add a BUT (which would mean --> something opposite...rite?? karl finally would like to agree that connie's serial is most popular and it can only be with option) so the option should be Cakhp77 wrote:Source: Master The GMAT 2010 (Petersons)

question asks to provide the most support for Karl's response to Connie's argument?
What is Karl's response - I disagree + this season the television networks that compete with the one that shows your favorite program are showing reruns of old programs during the same time slot as your favorite program
To support Karl's response, we should find an option which shows that reruns of old programs are even more popular.
A: What Connie considers entertaining does not necessarily coincide with what most television viewers consider entertaining. - This does not support Karl's response
B: Entertaining television shows are not necessarily popular as well. -- This does not support Karl's response
C: Television networks generally schedule their most popular shows during the same time slots as their competitors' most popular shows. -- Though this is a valid scenario, this does not support Karl's response.
D: Certain educational programs which are not generally considered entertaining are nevertheless among the most popular programs. -- out of scope
E: The most common reason for a network to rerun a television program is that a great number of television viewers request the rerun. -- This actually supports Karl's claim
hope this helps
