Knewton inference 5

by itsmebharat » Wed Jun 01, 2011 12:29 am
The wholesale price of a popular textbook is $30 a copy, and a college bookstore realizes that it must sell each one for double that price to be able to break even, when one adds on the cost of the bookstore's shipping, handling and inventory fees.

Which of the following statements can be inferred from the above statements?

* (A)

If the textbook were sold for $60, the college bookstore would make just enough in profits to buy more textbooks.
* (B)

The cost of shipping, handling, and inventory fees for the college bookstore is equivalent to $30 per textbook.
* (C)

The shipping fees are greater than the inventory fees for the textbook.
* (D)

The shipping, handling and inventory fees per textbook are each equal to $10.
* (E)

The standard retail price of the textbooks, as listed on the books by the publisher is $60.

OA B

IMO B
But I was between A and B. But I stayed with B.
For me A can not be the correct answer, because it is not mentioned what the store will do with the profit. We can not assume the store will spend the profit on buying books.

wholesale price = $30 a copy
acc to college, selling price should be = each one for double that price
==> Selling price = 2*$30 = $60
Conclusion : $30 is the whole sale price
and other $30 is "the cost of the bookstore's shipping, handling and inventory fees."

Which of the following statements can be inferred from the above statements?

(A)If the textbook were sold for $60, the college bookstore would make just enough in profits to buy more textbooks. not concerned with buying of books
(B)The cost of shipping, handling, and inventory fees for the college bookstore is equivalent to $30 per textbook.
(C)The shipping fees are greater than the inventory fees for the textbook. irrelevant
(D)The shipping, handling and inventory fees per textbook are each equal to $10. not possible
(E)The standard retail price of the textbooks, as listed on the books by the publisher is $60. not looking for that as an answer, we already know this.

Ans is B,
Reason why A is wrong is that bookseller will NOT be able to make any profits if he sells at $60. Also buying of text books is not mentioned and extra info is not allowed in inference questions.
