shortcut

Hi,

I read about a shortcut method for solving areas in GMAT questions.
The method said that whenever the figures are NOT mentioned as "figure not drawn to scale" we can actually assume the figures to be scaled.
For example, in this figure, the shaded area (according to the method) would be approximately 3 times of the smaller triangle (because it seems so). I even got the answer right, by this method.
Is this always true on GMAT?

Well!!! There is shortcut's can be used in GMAT problems, but that depend on the question. But you have to find out your shortcut by yourself. Just practice a lot, and you can find it out.

As your post mentioned - the question is not clear enough.

I'm not an expert, but I would not recommend using this method. You probably just got lucky. In my experience, it is best to use data that is given in the question stem and then only using the diagrams to identify things like Isosceles triangles, trapezoids, angles, etc.
I don't know what to say, really. Three minutes to the biggest battle of our professional lives. You find out life's this game of inches, so is football. Because in either game - life or football - the margin for error is so small. I mean, one half a step too late or too early and you don't quite make it. One half second too slow, too fast and you don't quite catch it. I'll tell you this, in any fight it's the guy whose willing to die whose gonna win that inch. That's football guys, that's all it is. Now, what are you gonna do?
