I have been preparing for the GMAT for the past one month, and I went through all the basic sentence correction errors. Still, I think I have some problem with the startegy I use while taking a test.
My Approach:
For a SC Question, I usually read the sentence once and then go to the answers to identify the error in the sentence. This way I usually make mistakes by omitting subtle errors in the sentence.
Can anyone give a detailed strategy on how to approach a SC Question?
Especially, what all do you look for in the original sentence, and how you use the answer choices to come to the final answer
Regards,
Srikanth.

I wish I could provide you some good tactical advice on SC, but this area of the GMAT was (and still is) a big weakness of mine. Beyond just studying Spidey's Notes and Sahil's Notes, I wish I had purchased the Manhattan GMAT Sentence Correction Guide. This book is considered the Bible of SC. I know a lot of people who have improved their SC performance dramatically just from studying this guide...
Best of luck!

i improved a lot (i am non native) with the Manhattan guides. But the key is practice, practice, practice... use the 1000SCs if you run out of questions (the only issue is that there is no good explanations for the 1000SCs so let this package for the end, when you are more accoustomed to the typical errors)ç
practice makes perfect!
practice makes perfect!

Hi
SC was my problem too but there are a few things u need to look out for. Will list them out here
1.Pronoun errors
2.modifiers
3.Subject verb agreement
4.Parallelism
5.clauses
and a few others.Elimination of each of these wll be easier to zero down to the right answer
( These are not something new but something which every sentence is formed of)
Will keep you updated on what all these are

I think if i were the superhero of tests like GRE/GMAT i d have started a forum and disclosed my name as Erip
Oh just a letter difference
hey just joking
heres my two cents(paisa; since i am an Indian )( & may be thats why i think i can explain you ..
i think while dealing with SC you need to trace wheres the error in answers from A to E.
at first glance if you attach answer option with main sentece all will look promising... so i think you need to throw away those option that simply do not fit there.

supriya..
you are right till an extent. Even I used to do the same thing, but then there are situations where tyou need to select 1 out of 2-3 equally comfortable and fitting choices.
the usage maybe perfectly correct.. but you need to chose somethin that stinks the least acc to GMAT grammer
hence you have somethin like spideys notes or sahils notes.
thanks.
