Devastated Applicant. Please help!

by trueblue10 » Sun Feb 21, 2010 4:41 pm
Hi all,

I recently went to take the GMAT with the hopes of applying R3. I am a non-traditional applicant and feel that I have a unique story that will make me somewhat stand out from the rest of the R3 crowd.

My problem is that when I went to take the GMAT, I was asked to leave for supposedly "accessing my cellphone." After finishing quant, I went to my locker (outside the testing room) to get a quick snack. However, for me to remove the bag from the locker I had to move my cellphone. The testing administrator saw this and stated that this was a violation and had my exam canceled! I pleaded with her, but she said I should take it up with Pearson on Monday.

I was hoping to get candid feedback as to how adcom would view such a cancelation? Furthermore, would this incident take me out of the running for top B-Schools, especially when spots are limited in R3?

I thank anyone who can take 10 seconds to provide feedback to help a truly devastated applicant.

I am not positive about this, but I believe that when your testing is cancelled, it's like you never took the test, so it shouldn't show up anywhere. I could be wrong.

i dont think the schools will see why the score was cancelled... so you're in the clear on that front...

will you have time to take the GMAT again before R3 deadlines? i know you have to wait 31 days

I agree with the above posters that a cancelled score will not show up. I also think you have a strong case to be able to take it again right away. Please let the forum know what happens. It is an interesting situation!

Best of luck to you!

Thank you to Jessica and Money9111 for the backup--I checked it out and indeed, once a test score is cancelled, it's like it never existed. You actually have this option when you sit for the exam as well--to cancel your score. I am sorry they forced you to do it, though!

Just wanted to give you guys an update.

I had to file an official appeal in regards to the incident. I explained the situation in detail; however, they got back to me within a day and flat out denied my appeal. The only thing that they did allow is for me to take the exam before the 31 day re-take policy. However, I have to shell out another $250 for it. Also, I spoke to various representatives and they said that the exam date will show on my score report.

Bryant, if you have other information, however, please share so that I can look further into it. I feel completely cheated and frustrated with the sitatution. Any help is much appreciated!
