Oops! And question 2! This is the same idea as the first question (verb precedes the subject with 'among' as a major hint), but in this case the answer choice does test this particular aspect AND tests parallelism. There is only one emotion on display: Anger. Therefore the verb to be should be in th...

Hi Tarun, Absolutely right about the following. Little has the connotation and meaning of not a lot and the sentence's meaning is more along the lines of a little bit of learning in the more positive sense, so the article 'a' would be appropriate. 8) Little learning is a dangerous thing.-->OK Here I...

Hiya! The main reason that D is correct is that it properly places the clause starting with 'whose' next to the noun it is modifying, namely, birds. In the original sentence, that same clause is incorrectly placed next to rafters and the behavior is not the rafters' behavior but that of the birds. I...

A good source is always the Official Guides. There is no question, at least not in 10th or 12th editions, in which a past perfect is wrong with the inclusion of such words. In fact you will not find many questions with the words before or after as part of the sentence. However, proper usage of the P...

Can you give contexts for these types of questions; did this appear anywhere?

In terms of this sentence, the last part (visit Bora Bora) is unnecessary as the verb and the object are the same as in the first part.

The problem with E is that is it wordier than it needs to be (notice that a clause is added- don't add a clause if it does not help clarify the sentence) and the placement of that dependent clause is awkward as it breaks the sentence's fluidity. There is no reason to break up the 'attempt' and the e...

The second is correct as it utilizes the Past Perfect Tense in which the first action in the finished past occurs before a second action, also in the finished past. The first action should be in the Past Perfect. Your hin is the word ;before' but you do not always get such explicit hints.

We usually say: To make an offer to do something or other. In addition, they (pronoun) does not agree with 'one'. When using a 1st conditional structure, if the condition (if) part of the sentence contains the verb 'to be', it should be in the form of 'were'. (If I were, if you were, if she were, if...

The marked answer is awkward and wordy. 'Which had the simple thesis' can be made more concise (to have something can usually be made more concise by using some kind of possessive form- in this case, as it is a clause, it would make sense to use the pronoun 'whose'). Saying 'the thesis of consumers ...

When you see a time clue, like an actual year, you must check tenses. The present perfect is used in the selected answer choice for actions which occurred in the finished past and have no relevance to today. Therefore: Wrong tense!
