Since the money spent should be equal, the company should spend an amount equal to LCM of 600 and 375 on each batch of printers. Then, you can calculate how many printers can be bought by dividing the LCM by 600 to get the first number, dividing the LCM by 375 to get the second number and add both t...

'could be' is the key. Question is not asking which value will 'always be' a prime. Check other choices and you will realize there is no value of X for which the other choices will ever be true.

Denominators with only 2 and 5 as factors will always terminate no matter what the numerator is. Denominators will 3, 7... will not terminate unless numerator is completely divisible. Looking at the denominators, 128 = 2^7. So, E will terminate no matter what. Check other choices. They will have 3 o...

10X/100 - 8Y/100 = 56
5X - 4Y = 2800

X+Y = 2000 => X = 2000 - Y
5(2000 - Y) - 4Y = 2800
Y = 800

GMATPrep - Another trap

I came across this while taking a GMATPrep test.

If k is a positive integer, then 20k is divisible by how many different positive integers?

1. k is prime

But the correct answer is e. Even I am not able to figure out why is A wrong.
A lists 'death' as one of the actions approved. That can't be true. Certainly, board cannot 'approve' death, can it?

The last statement starts with 'it is difficult to get an accurate comparison from these figures'. So, to end it, you must have something that emphasizes the difficulty. A clearly does that. I was thinking of D but I realized that even if the good and services are only one of several factors, it sti...

Always always remember the 2-min rule. MGMAT CATs have the rule tattooed in my brain. If you think the question is in your alley, then you SHOULD be able to crack it in and around 2-min. If not, then either the question is out of your ballpark (in which case, you make an educated guess and move on) ...

M = 6x + 1
N = 6y + 3
So, M+N = 6(x+y) + 4
M+N-4 = 6(x+y) = a multiple of 6.

Scan the answer choices and subtract 4 from each of them. The resulting number should not be a multiple of 6.

1. 86 - 4 = 82. Bingo!

Try out other choices to see that when 4 is subtracted, they result in a multiple of 6.
