I'm sorry to hear about your condition and I hope the surgery goes well. I know you mentioned you would be on bedrest after the surgery. Will you be able to conduct a phone interview from your bed? Personally, I would not advise telling the Adcom of your condition. It just doesn't seem relevant and ...

It is great to see someone thinking so far ahead! You ask many good questions but there aren't really right or wrong answers. Your Q score is fantastic for your practice tests, it is absolutely possible that you will score 700+ in March. And, remember, if you don't like your score, you can always ta...

From what I've read, it sounds like you would have a decent shot at one of the programs you identified. I think it is interesting that you started a company and have some "entrepreneurial" experience. I'd try not to make an excuse for your undergraduate performance, instead, focus on how w...

Hi Ricardo - You may want to add Kellogg to your list of schools to research! It isn't a coast, but, you might love the program - one of the top for placing people in marketing/branding and well known for this area. Wharton and Columbia will tend to be more finance/quant focused - so even if you get...

I agree with the previous poster's advice, however, this is only the case if you are certain of your supervisor's response. While many managers are, understandably, a little upset when their employees leave for business school, it is usually an emotion that is short lived. A decent manager wants the...

Hi Ricardo - Welcome! I love that you are on top of the game and already thinking about next year's application cycle. I think you will have an interesting story (although if I were you, I may focus on schools with strong strategy and marketing programs - retail will be limiting and not as transferr...

If you have an Indian MBA, another challenge will be to explain why you really need another MBA. You'll need to articulate how this degree will help you achieve goals that you can't achieve without it. This will be especially challenging because you DO have a lot of good work experience. An adcom mi...

Hi Abhinav, As you know, you are in a tough position. I assume that you meant you have an undergraduate degree in business (you wrote that you have an MBA?) but without knowing the school, you went to or your GPA, it is difficult to assess your candidacy (even with a better GMAT). The top US program...

Most importantly, check your application forms carefully for typos and grammatical errors. These will reflect poorly on your candidacy. As for awards - these should be things that come to mind easily and that occurred in or after college (in fact, I would veer away from listing many college awards a...

Babson has a good reputation for entrepreneurial studies and has a very good reputation in Boston (and a strong reputation in New England, it is just less known the further away you get). It isn't as highly ranked as some other schools, but, it is a strong program and it sounds like you have a good ...

I have a great deal of experience as an interviewer, and, while I think it is nice to get a thank you, I think it would be a bit creepy if someone tracked down my contact information. Then again, I've never been in a situation where an interviewee didn't have my email address (was the interview set ...

I'm not sure what type of full-time job you have, but, I think it would be incredibly difficult to make the most of business school and still do a respectable job at work. A full-time MBA is much more time consuming than college. Between classes, homework, project/study groups, company presentations...

I just looked at your list again - Columbia may be willing to defer your admittance for the January start class (I'm assuming you've applied for fall). The January start class is generally a little less competitive and I've heard they are more flexible in this regard (but no guarantees!).

I believe that most all of the schools/programs you mentioned are fall intake. So, any deferral would be one year. But, I agree with the other responder - it will be difficult to get a deferral without extenuating circumstances. You may be able to make the argument that it turns out not to be financ...

I think some of it is to better understand someone's position. If you are at a start-up or an entrepreneur (or a teacher or in non-profit work) then it is understandable to have a lower wage. If you work at an investment bank but only claim to make $40K then it is clear that you have a more clerical...
